140 YEARS OF SERVICE
SOLID EXPERIENCE ACROSS GENERATIONS
In 1880, at the early age of 20 years, João António da Cunha Ferreira establishes in Lisbon an Industrial Property Office acting as Official Agent for Patents and Trademarks under the business name of J.A. DA CUNHA FERREIRA.
João António da Cunha Ferreira was a contemporaneous follower of the first international conventions in this field, such as the Paris Convention of March 20, 1883 which established the International Union for the Protection of Industrial Property.
On behalf of his clients, João António da Cunha Ferreira filed some of the first patent applications and trademark registrations in Portugal.
On December 26, 1905, His Majesty D. Carlos, King of Portugal, “taking into account the services rendered to the Portuguese Industry and the qualities emerging from the person of João António da Cunha Ferreira” appointed him as Officer of the Civil Order of Industrial Merit.
João António da Cunha Ferreira passed away in February 1929 after fifty years of total devotion to the Industrial Property matters.
His sons kept the business active and in 1934 formed the company A.G. da Cunha Ferreira, Lda.
